Urban Rearangement Installations

topic posted Tue, March 7, 2006 - 9:23 AM by  Eric
I have started earlier this year. It began last year in the spring time when a friend and I walked the river and noticed the river had left us piles of river worn trash every where. We quickly got distracted in creating sculptures on the river bank for the next four hours. Then people came and took pictures and ran off as if we would have protested. This year I am building structures out of these huge slabs of concrete strewn about the steeper banks of the river as a retention wall of cheapness, cutting terraces, making stairs, art from litter left in the same spot as I found it, and painting it inevitably with moss. never underestimate the power of the leaver, the danger of broken glass in the dirt, or the resistance of common folk to the desire to find beauty in our waste creations. This is my new graffitti. The town I live in Is a heap of post-industrial crumblings and has many bridges with invisible undersides. South Bend Indiana...yep.

This is a great idea. There was a flood here a few years back and things still have not really cleaned up from that. I know the flood is a sad thing, but I thought it was beautiful how it had changed the landscape and there are many big things like you are talking about that I wanted to make something out of and it all looks like art to me.
This gave me a new idea!! I am going to try it and I will post pictures here for you.

I would like to see pics of what you have done too if you have them.

Sorry for the belated response. I have been without convenient computer access for some time. I have a need to share this idea with interested people, and to colaberate on such ventures; in my town and others. I do this when I can. I am very busy. I shall soon have pictures, somehow. I will post a date when I find another moment to reflect on it more deeply. Now, I can only commit to communications. I recently had a bike accident, and as a result sustained an injury which inhibbits romping and stomping on hazardous terrain. I am mending quickly.

      Peace,

      Eric Donovan Lester
